Elmer Ecology was founded by Jonathan Elmer in early 2014 to provide integrated and specialist environmental services. These include a wide range of ecological services including protected species survey, ecological survey and impact assessment, phase 1 and 2 botanical survey, BREEAM assessment for ecology, river corridor and river habitat survey, design of ecological mitigation, compensation and enhancement measures, and provision of ‘Expert Witness’ services should applications progress to appeal. Services also include project management and landscape and visual assessment, with the overall aim of helping developers deliver schemes that compliment landscape character and ecology.

Elmer Ecology is keen to work with clients of all scales from individuals building a single house to major developers. Jonathan Elmer has 20 years experience working within the development profession most of which was spent with Council Planning Sections within the North East. Consequently, Jonathan has a very detailed understanding of the planning process and will efficiently steer your project through this system and towards delivery.

Elmer Ecology is a ‘home based’ company on the outskirts of Durham City that draws on freelance ecologists as required for specific contracts. For example, we are able to draw on the services of licensed bat and newt surveyors should such survey work become a planning requirement. This enables overheads to be kept to an absolute minimum and enables Elmer Ecology to set highly competitive consultancy rates. Indeed Elmer Ecology is keen to match any lower quotation.
